GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) is a leading, research-based pharmaceutical company, which came into existence as an integrated company after the successful merger of two giants in the industry: Glaxo Wellcome and SmithKline Beecham in December 2000, both companies have a long history more than two centuries. The merger of the two pharmaceutical giants forms the solid foundation of GSK as a leader in the industry, with an estimated 7 per cent of the world's pharmaceutical market.

Headquartered in the UK and with operations based in the US, our business employs around 100,000 people in over 100 countries. We make almost four billion packs of medicines and healthcare products every year.

We produce medicines that treat six major disease areas ---- asthma, virus control, infections, mental health, diabetes and digestive conditions. In addition, we are developing new treatments for cancer. We are a leader in the important area of vaccines, supplying one quarter of the world's vaccines. We also have a Consumer Healthcare portfolio comprising over-the-counter (OTC) medicines, dental products, smoking control products and nutritional healthcare drinks.
