HIV/AIDS
GSK is the first foreign pharmaceutical company to invest in AIDS control in China. Early from 1994, we sponsor HIV/AIDS public education programs, donate medicines and diagnosis equipment, conduct the largest ever Chinese HIV clinical study, donate money to orphans from AIDS families Since 2007 our global program Positive Action extended to China, aiming at improve patients education at county level.
Hepatitis
We have been collaborated with the China Hepatitis Prevention Foundation and the MOH to work on series of hepatitis control programs, including training courses for doctors in near 20 provinces, Hepatitis B Day activity in 31 capital cities across China reaching more than 100 million people nationwide. A new national education program targeting patients kicks off recently in 2009.
Asthma education
We cooperate with Chinese Medical Association to conduct "easy asthma plan" in over 350 hospitals nationwide to promote professional treatment; support founding of China Asthma Alliance and consecutively support World Asthma Day; support research on Chronic Obstacle Pulmonary Disease in China; conduct nationwide public education.
Diabetes education
We cooperate with the China Medical Association Endocrine sub-group, to establish a continuous Medical Education program named "Control to Goal", covering 11,700 doctors in 40 cities; organize public education activities around the country, covering of a public audience of 15 million.
Vaccine popularization
We closely cooperate with the Chinese Preventive Medicine Association, carrying out series programs to spread the concept of disease prevention of value of vaccine. Lectures and doctor education programs benefit 5000 care givers at grass-root level. We support the Vaccine magazine Chinese version published in China. Family Vaccine initiated from 2007 help design vaccination plan for families. Collaborated with UNICEF, our Share One Love program kicked off in 2008 is to build up the basic vaccination facilitates in remote areas.
Mental health education
We work with the China Medical Association to develop diagnostic software to help doctors identify patients suffering from depression disorders. Under the help from leading Chinese Physicians, our "Peace Action" program is designed to improve patient education and the diagnosis & treatment level of doctors.
Drug safety education
From 2000, co-operate with China Nonprescription Medicines Association, we carry out Sunshine Project to do training to over 100,000 pharmacists from more than 5,000 drugstores in 30 cities around. In 2005, our Community Education Project on Drug Safety Awareness is regarded as the model to promote self-medication in China with its 100 public speeches and interactive activities in communities of 25 cities.
Influenza
We are doing everything we can to prepare for a global influenza pandemic. We granted Simcere Pharmaceutical Group of Nanjing in 2006 the right to manufacture and sell the anti-viral influenza treatment zanamivir in China, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and all Least Developed Countries.
